November update

November flew by just like all the other months.  I swear time is speeding up like crazy.  I started my new job at the Urology clinic at the beginning of October and it doesn't even seem possible that I have been there for 2 months already.  Not to mention the first semester of school is really wrapping up.  I have had a lot of facebook posts pop up from the past that have really made miss the baby/toddler days.  I feel like it was just yesterday but when I see the pictures I feel like I have already forgotten what it was like when they were that little.  Anyway, the boys have had a wonderful November, filled with lots of family time. Their favorite thing we did was go to the Trolls movie on a $5 tuesday with free popcorn!
Callan has been busy making friends at school.  He got his first birthday invite from the new school and got to see that he has friends in the neighborhood too.  He has loved walking to school and have that independence.  We also let them try breakfast at school, so sometimes on Fridays they walk up early to school for the $1.20 breakfast.  He thinks it is super cool.  The grape juice is his favorite part. We had conferences at the end of October and got a great report on Callan.  He is going great academically but is thriving socially.  His teacher says he is great listener and helper and she can always count on him to do the right thing even if others are not.  If you ask him how school is he will say "great, and the only thing I have to work on is not talking so much!"  He does talk a lot but not in a disruptive way.  The teacher says he does just fine. I think it is funny that he thinks that. I got to volunteer in his class one day and help him the class make turkeys.  He loves to read and write but he has loved art station the most because that is where his friend Teagan chooses to go everyday.  So he colors the same dog picture everyday (different colors every day) to be with his friend.  I have seen some different things come home so he might be breaking out a little.  He writes a lot of stories and many of them have to do with Nase and Tatze (in present tense, even though Nase died over a year ago) I gave Callan an allergy pill before school one morning and later that night I asked him if it helped with all the sniffing.  He said "yes, but I felt like I was itching my heart a lot".

both callan and carter won the wysong wow award this week for being a great student

Carter has been loving all the nice weather, which means playing football with all his new found friends that live in the neighborhood.  I find him riding his bike or playing football with most of his free time.  The yard is just more full with neighborhood boys. He goes to chorus every Monday morning and has been enjoying that.  They have their first concert in December.  He moved up to Dolphins in swimming and is close to being a swim graduate.  He really wants to do swim team so we will look into that for the spring maybe.  Carter had a great conference in October as well.  We did a little extra work on reading comprehension and he improved his score to "exceeds expectation".  When he works hard he does great things!  During the election Carter got to vote in school.  We gave him a run down of the 4 candidates briefly.  Later that week he told us who he voted for which was Jill Stein.  When I asked why he said "because I really like the environment, and she does too!"

Camden is enjoying 2nd grade at the new school as well.  He has made some friends and has been pushed academically this year so things have been a little more challenging for him. Camden has still be enjoying the pokemon craze.  He says that a few boys and him play a pokemon game at recess where some of them are pokemons and others have to catch them. During the election there was a lot of buzz and talk from the kids.  We had a lot to teach about the election process and what the different parties stand for/do.  When we asked Camden who he would vote for he said Trump or Gary Johnson. When I asked why he said "because they are boys!" I guess he bases his vote on very little :)  One day while the younger two were playing I over hear this. Callan- "How about I will be your donkey?" next thing I hear is Camden saying "Come on you dumb donkey!" (in his best Eyeore impression) and I see Callan crawling on the ground while Camden is prodding him with a ninja turtle sai. They can really entertain themselves I guess.

House update

Our house has been started!  The started to dig the basement on November 16th!  We were so excited to get out and see the hole!  It is so weird to stare at the hole because you always think, geez that looks small.  It looks like we are going to be getting a full daylight basement with one of the bedrooms needing a half egress which is so great!  That is really what we wanted.  They also had the forms in and now they have set the walls.  we just need the concrete floor and we have a basement.  They should start framing at the end of December beginning of January.  I will keep you posted as things change.

Niebuhr Thanksgiving

The Niebuhrs celebrated on thanksgiving day over at the grandparents house.  The kids had the day off on Wednesday so we spent the day cooking and shopping with the kids.  We found a great deal on a new TV for our new house and drove to Omaha to get it at their Target.  We went over around 11 and brought a big cooler for all our food and leftovers since there never seems to be enough room in the fridge.  My mom put the turkey in a brine (per my request) and we had a traditional meal.  I thought the turkey was pretty darn good in that brine!  Everyone brought a bunch of food and we had a ton of leftovers.  We had pumpkin, chocolate and apple pie for dessert and that was the best left over! We took a walk after lunch and played a trivia game with kids after they played another game together.  When it started to get dark we headed home for a shower and a light dinner. I didn't take too many pictures but here is what I got.

Scribner Thanksgiving

We had the Scribner thanksgiving the weekend before the holiday this year.  We got together on Saturday for dinner over at the grandparents house.  It was a low key relaxing evening where they kids got to play and the adults chatted, played games and watched football.  We had turkey and pumpkin pie and everything in between.  Karen also made her cream pie and it turned out perfect!
