Cabin Fever

We had our traditional Memorial Day weekend at the cabin.  The kids look forward to it every year and every year that passes the more fun and less stressful it is.  This year we just let the kids go do their own thing and just asked them to check in with us every so often.  It was a little muddy and rainy at times but it didn't hinder us from doing the things we wanted to do.  The boys enjoyed riding bikes and scooters up and down our row of cabins and running from each persons cabin to see what everyone else was doing.  It is amazing how fast a minivan can fill up with 3 kids, 2 dogs and 2 adults.  We couldn't bring one more thing with us!  We enjoyed grilling out both nights and seeing family.  We took a walk to the tower and one morning took a rainy walk around a small lake at the park.  The kids enjoyed time at the large indoor playground and of course the big pool.  It has a wave pool and kiddie area and two large water slides.  Both Carter and Callan went down the slides this year.  Chad took Callan down the fast one first in which in flipped over and was going down head first.  When he landed he had a look of fear on his face and said he didn't want to do it again.  We convinced him to try the slower slide and he did and he loved it! He went several more times. Carter also jumped off the diving board several times which is something he hasn't done before.  Carter also braved the wave pool which he did last year but did a really good job this year getting into a rhythm with the waves.  The weather wasn't super nice so it wasn't very busy which really made the trip worth it.  It was actually warmer in the pool then when you stood up and wind blew on you.  After dinner we enjoyed a fire pit and of course roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. The kids stayed up past 10 both nights and only slept in until 6:20 the first morning and I think 7 the next morning.  Needless to say we had some pretty tired boys.  When we got home on Sunday we ate lunch and then we all took a 3 hour nap and it was glorious!

On to better things

Last Thursday was Carter's last day of first grade!  He was thrilled to be done with school so he could have more time to play basketball.  I am not sure I am ready to have all 3 kids home for the next few months but I pray we keep them busy enough that I don't go insane.  On the last day of school I went up to help with field day (mainly just to take pictures).  I was a little worried it might be cancelled since it rained in the morning but they made it happen. I was stationed in the bounce house area in the gym but I left several times to go take some other pictures. After school I took the boys to goodrich to get ice cream cones because they had 0.99 cent single scoops.  Then that night we had 0.50 cent corn dogs from sonic because they had a special for national last day of school day. We then spent the evening outside with the neighbors watching the kids on the slip n slide and playing with water guns. It was a great way to start the summer!

poem reading

During the last week of school the parents we invited to come listen to their child read a poem and then watch them in the school parade. I had worked the full night before but was able to get up and go see him in action.  He was proud of the poem he chose to read. He also enjoyed showing me the rest of his book of poems.  Then after the poem reading we went outside and waited for them to parade around the block. They were escorted by police and an old car the Mrs. Kloefkorn was driving in.  All the kids loved the parade.

Soccer

Camden's first soccer season came to a close last weekend.  I am glad he got a chance to play and he had a lot of fun. I still think they are too young to really understand the game, but they had fun doing drills and playing against other teams.  Camden could frequently be found jumping up and down on the field especially after he kicked the ball.  He was all smiles all the time out there.  After the last game they all got medals and treats.
