Carter was officially 2 months old on Monday. We had a pretty good week but got some news on Monday that I was not thrilled about. Carter has always had reflux that makes him kind of fussy at times but for a while he has had a lot more gas problems. When he was on just breast milk he stopped having stools daily and would go 5-7 days without. He also got a rash on his face that the lactation lady told me seemed like he had a milk sensitivity. The rash went away but he kept having trouble with stools. I thought maybe it was just a fluke thing but now that he gets formula it only made things worse. I had to call the pediatrician and he said he thought it was a milk sensitivity. That means we have to change over to soy formula. It isn't more expensive which makes me happy but working in the NICU for years has made me have an aversion to soy formula. It stinks horribly! It smells like old french fries. So now my sweet baby smells like old french fries. The doctor said to give the new formula a week or so and see if it makes a difference with the stools (making them more frequent) and if decreases the fussy/gassy stuff. If this cures the gas problem I will be so happy, so pray that it works. Carter has been a social butterfly this week. We went to our first MOPS meeting. It is a meeting really for me and other moms, but Carter goes with me. We went to the annual Interact deck party at Chad's work. He got to wear his Husker attire and see all of Chad's co-workers. The music was a tad loud so we didn't stay to long. We took a trip to the outlet mall in Omaha with Kara and we got together with Carrie and cousin Noah. He got to hang out with Grandma Karen for a while on Sunday and he got to run errands with us this weekend. He is consistently sleeping at least 5 hours if we put him to bed right after the 11:00pm feeding and don't let him fall asleep before that. We go to the pediatrician next week for his 2 month check and his first shots. :( I will report more then.

Sweet Sleep

This has been a wonderful week for us. I have been able to get out of the house more and have started to feel more like a normal person again. I had my 6 week check and everything was good. Carter got to put his picture on the baby wall in the office too! Carter also did something amazing this week. He slept 6 hours one night and is usually giving me at least one chunk of 4-5 hours at a time. Now as I post this I am sad to say the last 2 nights he was up every 3 hours but I am hoping it will go back to the bigger chunks of time soon. The extra hour or two of sleep does wonders for my patience and mood. He is also staying awake for longer periods of time and seems to respond well to Chad and I's voices. He is getting stronger by the day and is doing a good job of holding his head for a minute or two. He can sit in his bumbo chair for about 5 minutes until his head gets tired and then he slumps down. But he seems to like the view better than being on his back. He has also had his fussy days where all he wants is to be held but it usually correlates with his gassy/reflux issues. On to the pictures. The first one is him very upset and ready to eat. The next one is him waiting patiently for us to come to bed and read to him before he goes to bed. The next is of Carter and Chad after the Nebraska game. Notice Chad's sunburn. The next one is of carter modeling his new outfit he got from Uncle Gary and Aunt Natalie from California. Thanks so much! He can't wait to wear them. The next is from last weekend. I loved the striped outfit but I am sure this is the outfit he will hate me for when he looks back at pictures. The last one is of him sitting in the bumbo chair looking like a big boy.

Three Blind Mice

Well here are some pictures from this past week. It has been an eventful one to say the least. We started it off by realizing we had mice in our house, or at least one mouse. We had caught a baby mouse about 3 weeks ago and thought no more of it until we started noticing mice droppings in every room in the house. The thought of having mice in our house made me sick to my stomach so I packed up the baby and stayed with my mom and dad for a few nights. We sent the pugs to stay with Chad's parents so we could set out traps. The good news is we never caught any (we had 15 traps set). That means it might have just been the one. But we still had to spring clean our house and do 1,000 loads of laundry. We are still finishing some of the clean up but hopefully all will be back to normal soon. We did have Terminix come out and make sure we didn't have any holes in our house. He said our house looked good but we did find holes in our yard where they are making nests. So they put up traps there and we noticed that they took the bate this morning so they will be dying soon. We talked to our neighbors and one of them said they thought they might have seen droppings in there garage. We just have to be careful when opening the doors. That is how they thought they got in. In Carter news he has done well this week. He is close to 9lbs. He still eats every 3 hours but we are getting into more of a routine. He still has fussy times due to the reflux but all in all he is a good baby. On to the pictures....The first one is of him in the morning. His crib is slightly elevated due to his reflux but he moves like crazy in his crib. Just a few minutes of fussing and he is at the bottom of the crib and sideways. It always makes me laugh when I go in in the middle of the night and he is at the bottom of the crib. The next one is of Nase after he stole the babies pacifier. He got in trouble but after I took the picture. The next two are of Carter after he is done eating and I am pumping. I have found that if I lay in on his right side on a pillow on my lap he will lay there without fussing. The fourth one is him on the boppy pillow just waiting for us to finish dinner. Have a good week.

Like Father Like Son

This is a picture of Chad and Carter wearing the same outfit at a month old. There are a lot of similarities. I thought it was neat that Karen saved Chad's outfit. So I just had to get a picture of Carter in it as well.

All In The Family

This has been a pretty good week. I had less appointments and was able to stay home with him and establish a better routine. His week started out great because he was breast feeding a lot better and I was starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel but the last 2 days he has not done nearly as well and it has been kinda frustrating. I just hope it is a temporary set back. In other news we got to go to great grandpa's house for his birthday and we were able to take some 4 generation pictures. It is always nice to get out of the house, but it is hard on the routine. Carter also got to experience his first Husker game on Saturday. He was decked out in his husker gear but he slept or ate through most of it. We then went to Valentino's to eat and he slept through most of that too! I am not getting more sleep yet but I am hoping it will be coming soon. He still wakes up quite a bit at night so he got moved into his "big boy" crib. That way every little peep doesn't wake me up. I didn't want to graduate to the crib quite yet but I think it will help me get more sleep. One last thing we did this past week was get his pictures taken. They should be up in few weeks and we will let you know. That is all that is new in the Scribner house for now.

A week of rest...

For Carter that is. As you can see by many of the pictures Carter likes to sleep a lot. During the day anyway. If I want to get some awake pictures I can take them at 2am. Actually he has been pretty good. He does wake up more in the night but he sleeps pretty good. I feel like we are getting into a little more of a routine and he is doing well with it. I got the okay from the doctor to let him sleep as long as he wants at night, but of course he doesn't want to sleep longer. We had a busy week this week with a lot of appointments for him and for me. When we went to the pediatricians office this week he weighed 7lbs 1.5oz and then 2 days later at milk works he weighed 7lbs 3oz. He is gaining weight nicely and everyone is happy about it. He switched over to the harder bottle this week and is doing well, which means we are one step closer to breast feeding. He also made a small stride with that as well this week. It is going to take time but I feel like there is hope that he will do it one day. We went to church for the first time this week and he seemed to enjoy it. I also got a break away this week and got to get my hair dyed back to a normal...semi normal color. She couldn't get rid of the black completely but she made it look pretty good. Anything is better then the crazy black. I have learned a hard lesson and that is never dye your hair black, even if it says wash out, if you don't want it to be permanent.
I am sorry my blog page looks like crap. I cannot figure out how to format well in blogger. I have tried. I really have.

Carter Is Home!!

On Saturday Chad and I got to bring our new baby home. He had to come home with a bili blanket but luckily it was only for 2 days. It has been a little bit of a rough start for us but things are getting better now. He is eating every 3 hours to gain back the weight he lost but we went through 3 different bottles until we found the one that worked the best for him. We are working on breast feeding but he is just too little right now to to get what he needs. So I am pumping and giving him bottles. He sleeps most of the day and seems to be up more in the evening. The first few days have been pretty stressful and sleepless but hopefully we are getting into more of a routine. I also think that the "baby blues" are going away which I am very happy about. I never knew how crazy emotional you can be after having a baby. We have had several doctors appointments and appointments with lactation specialists that have kept us busy. He was circumcised today in the office and he weighed 6lbs 13.7oz. He is one ounce away from being his birth weight. The lowest he got was 6lbs 4 oz. We are happy to be home and are very thankful for all the help and support we have gotten from family and friends. Without them we would not be able to do this. Thanks everyone!

Instead of allowing his mom to pose for her 35 week picture, our son had other plans. On Monday, Lisa went in for an appointment and found out that she was slowly leaking amniotic fluid. The doctor sent her to Labor and Delivery at Saint Elizabeth to be induced.

After laboring for around 7 hours, Lisa gave birth. Carter Brian Scribner was born on August 6th at 11:15pm. He weighed 6 pounds 14.7 ounces and was 19 inches long, not too shabby for a 35-weeker.

Because he was a little early, Carter was admitted to the NICU. However, he is on room air and is stating 100%.

He might have to spend a week in the hospital, but he is well and we hope to have him home soon. Mom has been up and around and is also doing fine.

Thanks to all of our friends and family for your love and support.

BED REST!

Well as most of you know I was put on bed rest on Monday after having contractions and dilating on Sunday night. They monitored me in the hospital a bit on Monday and gave me some medication to stop the contractions. Things have been good since then. I have a few contractions here and there but nothing crazy. Bed rest hasn't been too bad since a lot of friends and family have stopped by and made meals which helps pass the time. I have another appointment today at 2 to see if I am still the same or if I have dilated more. I will post the update when I get back. The good thing was I was able to make it through my shower on Sunday and I got a lot of neat stuff. I am very excited for the baby to be here now. We got the nursery set up thanks to the help of my mom and friend Christy. Chad and I scrambled (he scrambled, I laid in the bed) to get all the birth stuff ready just in case, but I think we are ready now. I will be on strict bed rest for this week and next week I will be 36 weeks and the doctor might give me more freedom the next week. We will wait and see I guess. I will update when I have more information. The pictures are of the babies room, my family that threw the shower for me and then me at 33 weeks.

Only 10 weeks to go!!

Well things have been quite busy with the Scribners lately. Chad decided to put in a french drain in our back and side yards so we wouldn't flood every time it rained and that was quite a job. I will post pictures of that later. We are going to lamaze class every Wednesday night and we are still in the process of finishing up the Bradley birth book. We got our car seat and stroller this last week and I am excited to have it. It makes everything more real. My mom is still working on the bedroom stuff but I will post a picture of that soon as well. The heat has been okay lately I haven't felt to bad. My newest pregnancy change has been that my feet and ankles swell pretty good when I am on my feet a long time. It is worse at work when I am on my feet for 12 hours. I wear support hose but man they make me hot. The baby has become more lodged around the rib cage so I often find it difficult to sit forward. He lets me know when I have invaded his space. :) I can actually feel his butt or head or something resting against my ribs. Well that is all I have for now. I hope you all have a good week and stay out of the heat!
