On Sunday we had Camden's baptism at the 9:45 service. Everything went well and the church service was really nice. We had a lot of family come to the service and then to our house afterward. We had lunch and good conversation and then we all crashed after it was over. We got some really nice gifts and cards and were really happy that our family and friends could be there to help us celebrate Camden as a child of God.

The newest addition

Welcome Baby Aunalie!

This post is long over due. On March 16th Chad and I became an Aunt and Uncle again to baby Aunalie. She is only 2 months younger than Camden and their son Noah is 3 months older than Carter. We will be having a lot of fun here in the next couple of years with the kids being so close in age. Here are a few pictures we have...

Camden was sad when I told him she was a girl. He didn't want any cooties.

The Good Ole Days

I am not sure what has triggered it, other than being a mom of two children, but I have been reminiscing a lot about the good old days. You know the days before children. The days of sweet freedom. The days where sleeping in meant 10 or 11am not 7am. Where we could spend an entire Saturday relaxing and enjoying our hobbies, taking a nap (after sleeping in till 10), and then spend the evening together eating a delicious meal out at a restaurant in peace and quiet and discussing adult things. We might be a bit tired from the exhausting day and have to rent a movie so we can relax from the busy week of working. This week I told Chad that I can't believe how much we run our dishwasher. It is at least every other day if not every day. I am not really that fond of emptying the dishwasher and I remember the days when we would complain about having to empty it once a week. We also talked about how we could clean the whole house in less than 2 hours working together and it would look great (and stay that way for more than a few hours). Now we are lucky to even have a partially clean house. But I also remember that while we were eating dinner at that nice restaurant we would talk about how bad we wanted kids and how we felt like our life wasn't complete. When we would lay around and relax on a Saturday I yearned for the day that we would be spending that time playing with our kids. Even though sleeping in is a thing of the past we now get to wake up to our 19 month old gabbing in his crib trying to find the words to talk to his mom and dad. Or we wake up to newborn cries of hunger that quickly go away once he is eating and that feeling of someone depending on you makes you feel like you are on top of the world. Even though we wish we could have that same feeling at 9am, we know we are truly blessed. Our lives have changed forever. We have two healthy, fun, and energetic sons that have made our lives complete but our days of looking and feeling young are gone.

My first job out of college working in the NICU

This is self explanatory

We are fully immersed in being parents with totally new priorities and new challenges. I NEVER thought I would look back on pictures (from 5-6 years ago) and think "man, we look young." I am sorry to say folks but that day is here. We are old. Where did the time go? In honor of my reminiscence I have posted a few "older" pictures of us. These were the good ole days...

This picture was taken on a *non digital* camera if that tells you anything.
We had only been dating a month or so at the time of this picture

The Peanut Nemesis

Some of you may know that we have been struggling with Carters food allergies and knowing what is the best thing to do for our son. His allergy tests last year said he was allergic to almost everything even though he was eating most of it. After several doctors we were told it was ok to give him anything he can tolerate and stay away from those things that he has reacted to. Egg is the only food he has had a reaction to up to this point. We were told to stay away from peanuts because they can be deadly and they didn't know if he would react. They has been a bunch of media buzz lately about how the new research shows that exposing children early (before 1 year of age) to peanuts leads to less allergic reactions. We were getting worried that if we held off peanuts for a few more years he would be allergic by default. So even though we probably shouldn't we tried a little test on our own to see if Carter would react to peanuts (epi pen ready). It was looking hopeful for the first few days. We started with a granola bar with just peanut flour and we got no reaction. Then we gave him peanut butter captain crunch and nothing. We then gave him a peanut butter granola bar (1/4) and he had no reaction. But the next day when we gave him bites of peanut butter he threw up 30 minutes later and then about 2 hours later he got a few hives on his face. Luckily it wasn't a bad reaction. I was really sad to learn that he for sure has a peanut allergy, but I am glad that we know now and don't have to wonder. The other good thing is that is seems like research is close to finding was to at least desensitize your body to peanuts so that if you are exposed you won't have a life threatening reaction. That is the scary thing about food allergies is always wondering if there is going to be an accidental exposure and what will the reaction be, especially in small children. We are praying every day that the new research will lead to a solution for all of us. Anyway I forgot to post about this earlier and thought I would update you all.

What a week! We had a really busy week with a lot of appointments and play time. I will start with Carter because I feel like there is so much to say with him. First of all we went to the Neonatal developmental clinic this week and Carter did awesome. She always plays developmental games to see where they are at and Carter passed all the tests. They funniest one was when he placed a rubber duck under a clear plastic box that had one side open to get the duck out. She faced the open side toward Carter and told him to get the duck. So he tried to just grab it but of course his hand hit the plastic and then he tried to take the plastic box off the duck. It was then he realized that the side facing him didn't have plastic covering it and he reached in and got the duck. He was so happy he clapped for himself. Then she turned it so the opening was to his right and it only took one wrong move and he then found the opening and retrieved the duck. He also stacked blocks, put together a puzzle, put a raisin in a glass jar and dumped it out. He played ball and said some words. She was very pleased with his progress and is really impressed with his receptive language. She thinks his verbal skills are right at target so I was happy to hear that. I think his language has really improved this week. He is starting to repeat more and more and now he is putting two "words" together. Now he says "goodbye noway" I have no idea what "noway" means but he is starting to put two words together which I think is good. He gibber gabbers ALL day long. He tells us stories in his own little language and it is so cute. He has started to say *all done* at meal times or when he wants us to stop doing something. He cried for the first time ever when I left on Wednesday night to go get coffee with friends. He also pooped and peed on the potty this week. No, we are not potty training , but we are trying to get him to understand what the potty is used for and when we use it. I am not sure he even knew what he was doing. I just saw he need to go and put him on the potty. We will wait until his verbal language is better so that he can tell us he needs to go before we really start to potty train. He has been able to play outside a ton this week which makes him a very happy boy and leads to great sleeping and napping. Brian and Erin gave us their old slide which he has been mastering this week. We also got window well covers on which means we have to worry a lot less with Carter outside. Thanks Al for all your hard work getting those together for us, we love them.
On to Camden. He is smiling a lot now and when he is happy he will smile pretty easy. I love seeing his little personality start to shine through. As I said in his previous 9 week post he is still having good and bad days with being fussy or throwing up more than usual. He is still on Previcid twice a day and I am not sure how much that is really helping but we will continue on it for a little while. Camden now only likes to be facing out when held (some due to the reflux i am sure) and wants to see what is going on around him. This also leads some issues with breastfeeding since he is easily distracted by the 100 decibel noise coming from his brother. We started putting him to bed at 8ish after his 7 or so feeding and this is getting better and better. (i believe we started last week) He is eating about 7 down about 8 and then sleeping till about 2:00 to 2:30am. I feed him then in about 20minutes and then put him back down. We were having trouble with him waking up at 5ish but got the ok from the pedi to push him off till 6 or 7 just to give us and him a little more sleep. The first night of that was a little rough, but last night was the second night of it and all it took was a few minutes of crying and he went back to sleep till 6:30. We are trying to get him into a good schedule that will work for Chad for when I go back to work. We hope that some of these yucky nights will pay of in the end and we will have a baby that sleeps through the night soon like we did with Carter. We are so happy that he is going down at 8ish and we have some evening to ourselves.
Camden's baptism is next weekend so I will hopefully have some pictures from that. Enjoy your week. Thanks for checking in with us.

9 weeks

Little Cam had his 2 month appointment on Wednesday so I thought I would share his stats. He was 11lbs 5oz which is 25-50%. He was 23inches which is 50-70%. His head was 39centimenters and that is 25-50%. All and all it was a good appointment. He had only gained 6 ounces in the last 2 weeks but the doctor didn't seem too worried about it so I guess we will just truck along. He is still having good and bad days with throwing up/reflux stuff and being fussy. I wish more than anything I had the miracle cure but I guess I just need to embrace it and realize "this to shall pass". I tell myself everyday that I have 2 healthy, beautiful kids and I am very blessed. Not to mention a wonderful husband who understands and helps me through the tough times and takes on a lot of extra stuff. I also have an amazing group of friends who listen to me complain, worry and fret over my situation and always lend a listening ear, a helping hand or give encouraging words. I know it probably gets draining being my friend but I really appreciate it all. I also have great family that have really stepped up and helped us out a TON! Giving us some much needed breaks that make the days just a little easier. THANK YOU EVERYONE! There is no way I could do this alone.

Our LITTLE BABY Carter

Carter loves sitting in the Camden's bathtub

Trying to get out of the bouncy seat

He has been trying for weeks to get into the bouncy seat and he finally figured it out

He also found the binky and remembered what to do with it

Trying to get into the pack n play

I just had to make a little post of all of Carter's regressions. I am missing a picture of him sitting in the bumbo chair but he can and will sit in that as well. It was super funny when he finally realized how to get into the bouncy seat and he got in and out at least 100 times. He was so proud of himself. The picture I got of him with the binky was also funny because he has gotten a hold of it before but never knew what to do with it. Recently he has seen Camden with it and now knows what to do, although he couldn't keep it in his mouth. He also put it in backwards a few times. The baby bathtub is another favorite of his. He gets into it every chance he gets. He is also trying to climb into the pack n play when he can. Silly boy, he still thinks he is the baby.

2 months old

Our little baby turned 2 months old yesterday. Here are the things I have learned about my baby in the last month.
He is unpredictable. He smiles a lot now. His eyes are still really blue. When it comes to sleeping he is usually going about 6 hours between feeds at night, but he still has set backs. He feeds better when it is quiet in the house. He has started to notice and watch Carter. He likes to be facing outward. Baths are something he enjoys (when I remember to give them to him) He is a hot box. I cannot dress him in anything fleece without him sweating like a pig. He has started to coo a little. He fusses now when he wants to be held. His eye lashes are getting dark and longer now. We are starting to put him to bed at 8ish like we did with Carter to see if he will start sleeping longer. He loves to be swaddled. He HATES the bottle. He throws up a ton at least once a day. He is on previcid for his reflux. Last but not least....drum roll please...he still has not peed on me when changing his diaper!

An apple a day...

I was cleaning out the fridge the other day and it was very enticing to Carter that the door was open a lot. So to keep him out of my hair I handed him an apple. He usually just takes whatever I give him and just carries it around. When I looked over at him I realized he was really eating it. This is coming from the kid that isn't the best at taking "bites". He did really well and ate about half of the apple. He felt like such a big boy.

Carter has a new thing where he puts anything that looks remotely like a phone up to his ear and says "hi" over and over. This day it was the TV remote. He kept putting it up to his ear saying "hi". He eventually said "bye"
Camden's view of the whole ordeal

Last Saturday morning I thought it would be fun to make pancakes. So I put Carter on the counter and thought he could help me stir. I handed him the bowl of bisquick and a spoon and then I turned around for a split second. That was when Carter decided to take a huge bite of plain dry bisquick. It was hilarious. Luckily Chad was there to catch it on film.

I found Carter playing over by the window one day. It is a new favorite spot. He just laid here for at least 10-15 minutes and just talked to himself
