Enjoying their Halloween treats

I just wanted to post some of this evenings pictures. We went over to great grandma and great grandpa Niebuhr's for Halloween. We met the triplets there and ate some snacks and opened presents from the grandparents. It was pretty cute. Carter was tired so we didn't get the greatest pictures but the triplets were so adorable. Here they are...enjoy!

Working 9 to 5

Well it really should be working 3 to 3. I go back to work starting tomorrow. I am going back part time and will be working two 12 hour shifts. I am looking forward to being with my co-workers but I am sad to leave Carter and the nice routine we have now. We have had quite the news here. Carter slept through the night 2 nights in a row. He goes to bed after his 8pm feeding and he slept till 7am. I am not sure if this will be a trend or not but we are all hoping so. We really need to put him to bed earlier because he is grumpy and ready for bed at 7pm. We are going to start trying to put him down earlier each night and see if he is happier. That last hour is a bear anyway. We are also working on nap times. Now that I am going back to work it will be nice if he is actually taking naps instead of cat napping all day. He is such a happy baby when he is well rested. We worked on nap time this weekend and will continue to try to put him down this week. We have a busy week with Halloween coming up and lots of people to see so I will post more of his Halloween pictures soon. The pictures are of Carter sitting in his bumbo seat (trying to catch a smile on camera), all lubed up after a bath, falling asleep in his bouncy seat and him hangin with the pugs.

We had a very eventful weekend. I got a chance to get away for a little while and do something I love...scrap booking. I stayed over night in Omaha with my co-workers and then scrap booked all day Saturday. I was able to get started on Carter's baby book and the event was super fun. I got a ton of new stuff and won a bunch of door prizes. That meant Chad was on his own with the baby and he did awesome. Carter loved me being gone so much that he slept from 8 till 5:45am and then went back to bed till 8. I guess he wanted to take it easy on his dad. After my trip we went back up to Omaha on Sunday for the annual pug-o-ween. It was cold and windy and not optimal for taking pictures so I will post better ones of the costumes later. We of course did not let you down. We won best homemade costume and got a treat bag for the pugs. We also got a call yesterday that we won the raffle prize! I guess I am on a lucky streak. We then went over to our friends Abby and Jason and hung out with them for a while and went out to dinner. It was a lot of fun. Carter is starting to do more now too! He can hold his head up for long periods of time and can sit in his bumbo chair a lot easier. He also smiled for me for the first time on Friday October 19. Now grandma Niebuhr will claim that he smiles for her all the time but I never saw it until Friday. Now he is doing it a lot more. He is awake a lot more and is discovering his fists and realizing he has control of his body. It is amazing how fast they grow and do new things.

Tatze with her birthday present

This week has been pretty productive. We celebrated Tatze's second birthday with family trip to PetCo so we could get Tatze her present. Carter slept through the trip and the pugs loved it. We also went over to grandma and grandpa Niebuhrs a few times to work on the Halloween costumes. On Saturday we watch the game with grandma and grandpa Scribner and Carter was awake and happy for most of the game. He must be a Husker fan already. He must not care that our team is not good this year. Chad and I got to go out to dinner without the baby on Friday and it was nice to eat a meal without a baby in my arms. The most eventful thing we did this week was change Carter's bedtime. Our pedi said it would be better for us to start putting him down after his 8:00pm feeding instead of waiting till 11:00pm. Even though he was sleeping good we thought it would be better in the long run to try it out and it has worked out well. It usually takes a half hour or so for him to fall asleep but we have a routine that helps I think. This gives Chad and I a few hours to get some things done around the house before bed. He does wake up once in the night around 3 but then goes back down till 6 or 7. The doctor said he will eventually drop that middle of the night feed and then we will have a baby that sleeps from 8 till 6,7 or 8. That sounds like a pretty good plan to me. I am also very happy that the weather has gotten cooler so that he can wear some of his fall/winter outfits before he grows out of them. This weekend we are going to the annual Pug-o-Ween so I will have some pictures to post of that soon. I will also post them on Nase and Tatze's blog.

Baptism

We all had a very eventful week. Carter had his baptism on Sunday at church. It went really well and we had a lot of friends and family there to help us celebrate. Carter did well and didn't cry but he did spit up right before being baptized. Thanks to everyone who brought food. It was wonderful. We are happy to report that switching to soy formula has done wonders for him. He is a lot less fussy and seems to be more comfortable. We hope this continues. The only weird thing is that he spits a little more than he did before. I guess we will just keep an eye on it. He also went to his pediatrician today for his 2 month check. He weighed a whopping 10lbs 10oz. I believe that put him in the 25th percentile for age. He also was 23 inches which is in the 50th percentile, and his head was 39.5cm which was in between the 25th and 50th percentile. The doctor said he looked good and didn't have too much more to report. He wants us to continue to do lots of tummy time and says not to be so surprised if he is behind on things like social smile and rolling over since he was over a month early. He also got his dreaded shots today. He got four shots but he was a trooper. He cried for about 30seconds and then he was fine. I was surprised at how well he did. It was not nearly as bad as I heard it was. That is all I have to report. Only a few more weeks before I go back to work.

Are you my mother?

I have been working on Carter's baby book a lot lately, and I realized that even though Carter looks a lot like a Scribner he does have a few features of me. Here is my hospital picture and his hospital picture...

2 Months Old

Carter was officially 2 months old on Monday. We had a pretty good week but got some news on Monday that I was not thrilled about. Carter has always had reflux that makes him kind of fussy at times but for a while he has had a lot more gas problems. When he was on just breast milk he stopped having stools daily and would go 5-7 days without. He also got a rash on his face that the lactation lady told me seemed like he had a milk sensitivity. The rash went away but he kept having trouble with stools. I thought maybe it was just a fluke thing but now that he gets formula it only made things worse. I had to call the pediatrician and he said he thought it was a milk sensitivity. That means we have to change over to soy formula. It isn't more expensive which makes me happy but working in the NICU for years has made me have an aversion to soy formula. It stinks horribly! It smells like old french fries. So now my sweet baby smells like old french fries. The doctor said to give the new formula a week or so and see if it makes a difference with the stools (making them more frequent) and if decreases the fussy/gassy stuff. If this cures the gas problem I will be so happy, so pray that it works. Carter has been a social butterfly this week. We went to our first MOPS meeting. It is a meeting really for me and other moms, but Carter goes with me. We went to the annual Interact deck party at Chad's work. He got to wear his Husker attire and see all of Chad's co-workers. The music was a tad loud so we didn't stay to long. We took a trip to the outlet mall in Omaha with Kara and we got together with Carrie and cousin Noah. He got to hang out with Grandma Karen for a while on Sunday and he got to run errands with us this weekend. He is consistently sleeping at least 5 hours if we put him to bed right after the 11:00pm feeding and don't let him fall asleep before that. We go to the pediatrician next week for his 2 month check and his first shots. :( I will report more then.

Sweet Sleep

This has been a wonderful week for us. I have been able to get out of the house more and have started to feel more like a normal person again. I had my 6 week check and everything was good. Carter got to put his picture on the baby wall in the office too! Carter also did something amazing this week. He slept 6 hours one night and is usually giving me at least one chunk of 4-5 hours at a time. Now as I post this I am sad to say the last 2 nights he was up every 3 hours but I am hoping it will go back to the bigger chunks of time soon. The extra hour or two of sleep does wonders for my patience and mood. He is also staying awake for longer periods of time and seems to respond well to Chad and I's voices. He is getting stronger by the day and is doing a good job of holding his head for a minute or two. He can sit in his bumbo chair for about 5 minutes until his head gets tired and then he slumps down. But he seems to like the view better than being on his back. He has also had his fussy days where all he wants is to be held but it usually correlates with his gassy/reflux issues. On to the pictures. The first one is him very upset and ready to eat. The next one is him waiting patiently for us to come to bed and read to him before he goes to bed. The next is of Carter and Chad after the Nebraska game. Notice Chad's sunburn. The next one is of carter modeling his new outfit he got from Uncle Gary and Aunt Natalie from California. Thanks so much! He can't wait to wear them. The next is from last weekend. I loved the striped outfit but I am sure this is the outfit he will hate me for when he looks back at pictures. The last one is of him sitting in the bumbo chair looking like a big boy.

Three Blind Mice

Well here are some pictures from this past week. It has been an eventful one to say the least. We started it off by realizing we had mice in our house, or at least one mouse. We had caught a baby mouse about 3 weeks ago and thought no more of it until we started noticing mice droppings in every room in the house. The thought of having mice in our house made me sick to my stomach so I packed up the baby and stayed with my mom and dad for a few nights. We sent the pugs to stay with Chad's parents so we could set out traps. The good news is we never caught any (we had 15 traps set). That means it might have just been the one. But we still had to spring clean our house and do 1,000 loads of laundry. We are still finishing some of the clean up but hopefully all will be back to normal soon. We did have Terminix come out and make sure we didn't have any holes in our house. He said our house looked good but we did find holes in our yard where they are making nests. So they put up traps there and we noticed that they took the bate this morning so they will be dying soon. We talked to our neighbors and one of them said they thought they might have seen droppings in there garage. We just have to be careful when opening the doors. That is how they thought they got in. In Carter news he has done well this week. He is close to 9lbs. He still eats every 3 hours but we are getting into more of a routine. He still has fussy times due to the reflux but all in all he is a good baby. On to the pictures....The first one is of him in the morning. His crib is slightly elevated due to his reflux but he moves like crazy in his crib. Just a few minutes of fussing and he is at the bottom of the crib and sideways. It always makes me laugh when I go in in the middle of the night and he is at the bottom of the crib. The next one is of Nase after he stole the babies pacifier. He got in trouble but after I took the picture. The next two are of Carter after he is done eating and I am pumping. I have found that if I lay in on his right side on a pillow on my lap he will lay there without fussing. The fourth one is him on the boppy pillow just waiting for us to finish dinner. Have a good week.

Like Father Like Son

This is a picture of Chad and Carter wearing the same outfit at a month old. There are a lot of similarities. I thought it was neat that Karen saved Chad's outfit. So I just had to get a picture of Carter in it as well.

All In The Family

This has been a pretty good week. I had less appointments and was able to stay home with him and establish a better routine. His week started out great because he was breast feeding a lot better and I was starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel but the last 2 days he has not done nearly as well and it has been kinda frustrating. I just hope it is a temporary set back. In other news we got to go to great grandpa's house for his birthday and we were able to take some 4 generation pictures. It is always nice to get out of the house, but it is hard on the routine. Carter also got to experience his first Husker game on Saturday. He was decked out in his husker gear but he slept or ate through most of it. We then went to Valentino's to eat and he slept through most of that too! I am not getting more sleep yet but I am hoping it will be coming soon. He still wakes up quite a bit at night so he got moved into his "big boy" crib. That way every little peep doesn't wake me up. I didn't want to graduate to the crib quite yet but I think it will help me get more sleep. One last thing we did this past week was get his pictures taken. They should be up in few weeks and we will let you know. That is all that is new in the Scribner house for now.
